Fifa Futsal World Cup 2024 will be the tenth edition of the event and will be played from September 14 to October 6 in Uzbekistan.

Group Stage

The tournament will see 24 teams competing for the title, divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. The group stage matches will be played between September 14 and 22.

Knockout Stage

Once the group stage is over, the knockout stage will commence with the Round of 16 matches, followed by the Quarter-Finals, the Semi-Finals, and the Final.

The knockout games will begin from 24th September with the first Round of 16 fixture. The quarter-finals will be played on 29th and 30th September, while the semi-finals are scheduled on October 2 and 3.

The Final

The 2024 Fifa Futsal World Cup Final will be played between the top two knockout winners on the 6^th of October.

The mega event will see 24 national teams taking part in the event. Uzbekistan had an automatic qualification for the event, as they will be hosting the World Cup. Besides the hosts, 23 other teams have qualified for the event through six continental futsal competitions.

The following teams have qualified for the Futsal World Cup 2024 and will be seen in action during the mega event.

These are the 24 best Futsal teams from around the world that qualified from a pool of 121 nations that competed for qualification. Among these, four teams will be playing the mega event for the first time. The debutants include Afghanistan, Tajikistan, New Zealand, and France.

The qualification for the mega event wasn’t that easy, especially with such a large number of teams competing for their spot, and we surely have the best sides making it to the final lineup. Let’s look into how they made it this far.

2024 Futsal World Cup Qualification

The process of qualification for the event varied depending on the continent. Futsal national teams from Africa, Asia, South America, North America, and Oceania took part in their respective Futsal continental championships. However, the teams from Europe participated in a qualifying tournament to earn their spot in the final 24.

The number of teams qualifying from each continent also varied, depending on the qualification rules. The top four teams qualified from the CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, and AFC tournaments (Afghanistan was the exception as Uzbekistan had already qualified as the host nation).

The top three teams made it through from the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, while New Zealand were the only team to qualify from the Oceania after winning the OFC Futsal Nations Cup 2023. The largest pool came from the UEFA Futsal World Cup Qualifiers, as 7 European teams qualified for the mega event.

portugal is the defending champion, while there’s a ban imposed on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, and it can’t take part in the event.  

A total of 20 European teams featured in the Elite round from September to December 2023. They were divided into 5 groups of 4 teams each, with the group winners set to qualify for the world event. Besides, 4 best-ranked second-placed teams played the Elite round playoffs, and the playoff winners qualified for the mega event. Eventually, seven teams from Europe qualified for the Fifa Futsal World Cup 2024.

Futsal World Cup Qualifiers

As mentioned earlier, six different qualifying tournaments were played to decide the final team lineup for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024. Here’s a quick look into each tournament.

The following qualifiers are yet to be played, with 13 teams aiming to find a spot in the final 24.

• AFC Futsal Asian Cup

The Asian qualifier was played from 17^th to 29^th April 2024 in Thailand. Top four teams had to qualify for the Futsal World Cup 2024 in Uzbekistan from this event. Iran, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan sealed the top four sports and qualified for the mega event. However, Uzbekistan finishing in top four made way for Afghanistan who qualified for the World Cup by winning the play-off round.

• CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations

The African qualifier was played from 11^th to 21^st April 2024 in Rabat, Morocco. Morocco, Angola, and Libya qualified for the Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan from this event.

• CONCACAF Futsal Championship

The Concacaf Futsal Championship was played between 13^th and 20^th of April in Managua, Nicaragua. The top four teams from this championship had to qualify for the Uzbekistan 2024 event. Panama, Cuba, Guatemala, and Costa Rica were the top four in this tournament and secured their ticket to the Futsal World Cup 2024.

• CONMEBOL COPA America de Futsal

CONMEBOL COPA America de Futsal is the qualifying tournament for the teams from South America. It was played from 2 to 10 February in Paraguay. Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, and Paraguay qualified for the mega event from this tournament.

• OFC Futsal Nations Cup

The OFC Futsal Nations Cup was played in Auckland, New Zealand from 1 to 7 October 2023. The host New Zealand won this tournament and qualified for Uzbekistan 2024.

• UEFA Futsal World Cup Qualifiers 2024

he European Qualifiers were completed in multiple stages, starting with the Preliminary Round on 5th April 2022. There were 24 teams in 6 groups in the Preliminary Round, with the group winners and runners-up progressing to the Main Round.

The Main Round matches were played between 17 September 2022 and 8 March 2023, featuring 36 teams in 12 groups. The 12 top teams from each group along with 4 best runners-up qualified for the Elite Round, while 8 runners-up played the Main Round Play-offs. The Main Round Play-offs were played from 12 to 19 April 2023 and four winners reached the Elite Round.

The Elite Round of the European Qualifier was played from 15th September to 20th December 2023. A total of 20 teams participated in this round, and 5 group winners qualified directly for the Futsal World Cup 2024. These included Kazakhstan, Ukraine, France, Spain, and Portugal.

The four best runners-up qualified for the Elite Round play-offs. The Elite round playoffs were played between Croatia, Finland, Poland, and the Netherlands between 8^th and 17^th April 2024. Netherlands and Croatia won the play-offs and qualified for the World Cup.

With the completion of the European Qualifiers, the 24 teams lineup for Uzbekistan 2024 was completed. The teams were drawn into 6 groups of 4 teams each at the Futsal World Cup Draw on 26th May 2024.

Futsal World Cup 2024 Format

The mega event will feature 24 top Futsal teams from around the world and commence with the group stage matches. Here’s how the format of the tournament has been designed.

Group Stage

The first phase of the tournament will be played in a group format. The 24 participating teams will be divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. They will all compete for the top two spots in their respective groups, as the group winners and runners-up will qualify directly for the Knockout stage of the event. Besides these top 12 teams, the four best third-placed sides will also reach the knockout phase.

Knockout Stage

The knockout stage of the tournament will start with 16 teams who qualify from the group stage. In each subsequent round, the teams will play one match each and will either proceed to the next round or get knocked out of the tournament.

Here’s how the knockout stage will unfold.

• Round of 16

The round of 16 matches will be played between 16 teams qualifying from the group stage – 12 group winners and runners-up and 4 best third-placed teams. The teams will play one game each in this round and 8 winners will proceed to the Quarter-Finals.

• Quarter-Finals

The eight Round of 16 winners will be up against each other in the Quarter-Finals of the tournament. Four matches will be played in this round, and the teams will compete to seal a spot in the Semis.

• Semi-Finals

The four quarter-final winners will play against each other in the Semi-Finals, with their sights set on the Final berth. The teams losing the semi-finals will play the third-place play-off.

• Final

The winners of the two semi-finals will face each other in the Final to compete for the Futsal World Champions title. The final of the event will be played on the 6^th of October 2024.

The Futsal World Cup 2024 format is designed to bring maximum excitement and fun to the Futsal fans worldwide. A total of 52 matches will be played during the tournament, and it will bring the ultimate Futsal action for the lovers of the sport.

Besides these venues, some other cities in Uzbekistan were also expected to host the matches of the Futsal World Cup, including Qarshi, Ferghana, and Samarkand. However, they could not make it to the final list of Futsal World Cup 2024 venues.
