Thailand Crowned Champions at the Continental Futsal Championship 2024

The hosts beat Afghanistan 2-1 in their last game of the tournament to secure the top spot on points table. Guatemala finished second while Afghanistan secured the third place.

Thailand and Afghanistan faced each other in their last match of the Continental Futsal Championship in Thailand. The hosts had a slight edge in this game, but both the teams fought hard to finish their campaign on a high.

Both teams displayed great attacking play right from the beginning, but the goalkeepers kept denying every shot at goal. Eventually, Thailand broke the deadlock in the 7th minute when Praphaphan scored a beautiful goal from outside the penalty area on a pass he received from a kick-in.

After conceding the goal, Afghanistan started pressing hard but couldn’t find a way to sneak one through. Thailand had tightly marked their players and the defenders didn’t leave many openings. The battle continued and the first half ended with 1-0 on the score sheet.

Both teams started the second half with aggression and the intensity was high. Afghanistan were denied many chances until they finally managed to get one through with 11 minutes remaining in the game. It was Akbar Kazemi who scored a splendid equalizer for Afghanistan, running in from the left flank and striking powerfully right in front of the goal.

The two teams started pressing for the match-winning goal, and Thailand got it in the 34th minute of the game. It was their star Osmanmusa who got a ball on the left flank and struck powerfully to get it past the Afghan goalkeeper. The goal not only won them the game, but also the Championship Title, as they got past Guatemala on the points table.

Both Thailand and Afghanistan had a great tournament where they went through many intense moments and sustained to eventually finish in top 3. This experience will certainly help them in their World Cup campaign starting in just over a week’s time.

Thailand will be playing Croatia, Cuba, and Brazil in Group B while Afghanistan will face Argentina, Ukraine, and Angola in Group C at the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024. The tournament will get underway on September 14.
