Catela was the star of the night for Spain, as he struck a splendid hat-trick to see his side home. The victory not only helped Spain move to the top of the group with 4 points but also gave a boost to their goal difference.
New Zealand looked sharp and quick in the beginning, and in fact, threatened a historic upset by scoring the first goal of the game in the 6th minute. Dylan Manickum’s exceptional counter-attacking run down the wing led to an easy ball in front of the goal, which Art Twigg deflected into the net.
La Roja went to half-time on level terms, with Miguel Mellado scoring the first goal for them. In the second half, Fede Vidal’s men were electrified and scored 6 goals to bag a comfortable and dominating victory over the Futsal Whites. Catela led the charge with a superb hat-trick for Spain in the second half.
Spain will play their next game against Libya and New Zealand will be up against Kazakhstan to decide the fate of Group D in the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024.
