Futsal AFCON 2026: Mozambique Thrash Tanzania 4-0 to Finish Third in Group B

Mozambique ended their Futsal AFCON 2026 campaign on a high on Saturday night, thrashing Tanzania 4-0 at the Salle Ibn Yassine in Rabat to claim third place in Group B.

Danny and Magú were the stars of the show, scoring two goals each as Mozambique raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time and never looked back. It was the Mambas’ first win of the tournament after defeats to Angola (5-1) and Egypt (4-0).

For Tanzania, it was a difficult end to a difficult debut campaign. The Taifa Stars finish bottom of Group B with zero points, having lost all three matches without scoring a goal — 8-0 to Egypt, 6-0 to Angola, and now 4-0 to Mozambique.

Danny and Magú run the show

Mozambique were in control from the first whistle. Danny struck twice in the opening period and Magú added the third before the break to put the result beyond doubt at 3-0.

There was no let-up after half-time either, with Magú completing his brace to round off a comfortable 4-0 victory. Tanzania battled hard but could not find a way through, and the debutants will return home with plenty of lessons learned from their first appearance at the continental finals.

The win takes Mozambique to three points from their three group matches, good enough for third place behind Angola (9) and Egypt (6).

What next for both sides

Both teams are now out of the tournament, but the mood in the two camps will be very different. Mozambique, the 2004 runners-up, can take heart from finishing with a win and will look to build on this result in future qualifying campaigns.

Tanzania, meanwhile, will reflect on a harsh introduction to top-level futsal. Facing three of Africa’s strongest sides in their first three matches was always going to be a steep learning curve, and the experience of playing at this level should stand them in good stead.

For anyone new to the sport, these are exactly the kind of matches that show what is futsal at its best — fast, technical, and full of goals.
