Futsal AFCON 2026 Semifinals: Morocco vs Egypt and Angola vs Algeria — Preview
The group stage is over, and Rabat has its last four. Defending champions Morocco take on Egypt, while Angola face Algeria in the Futsal AFCON 2026 semifinals on Monday, October 19. Four teams, two tickets to the final — and no room for error from here on.
Morocco vs Egypt — past champions collide
Morocco were perfect in the group stage. Three games, three wins, 17 goals scored, none conceded. They opened with a 4-0 win over Algeria — Youssef Jouad bagging a hat-trick — then hammered Zambia 7-0 and put six past Libya, with captain Soufiane El Mesrar scoring three of them. They are chasing a fourth straight continental title on home soil, and so far they have looked every bit the team to beat.
The one worry is injury. Soufiane Chaaraoui picked up a knock against Zambia, missed the Libya game, and further medical tests will decide whether he is available for the semifinal.
Egypt are chasing their first African title since 2004. They flew out of the blocks — 8-0 over Tanzania, 4-0 over Mozambique — and then ran into Angola in Saturday’s group decider, losing 4-2. Now they get the hosts in front of the most intimidating atmosphere in African futsal. To reach the final, they will have to do what no team has managed all tournament: score against Morocco. For anyone new to the game, our futsal guide breaks down how the five-a-side game works — and why it produces scorelines like these.
Angola vs Algeria — history awaits one of them
Angola are the 2024 runners-up, and they look like a team on a mission. They won all three group games: 5-1 over Mozambique, 6-0 over Tanzania with Cambangula scoring four, and the 4-2 win over Egypt that sealed top spot. Fifteen goals scored, three conceded — a squad playing with genuine belief. One more win and they are back in the final, one step from a first continental crown.
Algeria are the story of the tournament so far. They lost their opener 4-0 to Morocco, fought back for a 2-2 draw with Libya — their first-ever AFCON point — and then produced the result of the group stage: a 7-4 win over Zambia that sent them through to their first-ever semifinal. Nobody expected them here, which is exactly what makes them dangerous. Goals like Cambangula’s usually come from one man — here’s what each futsal position actually does on court.
What’s at stake
The two winners meet in the final on Wednesday, October 21 at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat, with the third-place playoff earlier the same day. Along with the title, World Cup qualification is on the line. Both semifinals are on Monday, October 19 in Rabat, and every match streams live on CAF TV, the confederation’s official YouTube channel.
