Paraguay All Set for Portugal Challenge

Paraguay will play two friendly matches against Portugal on September 2 and September 4 to prepare for the Futsal World Cup 2024 in Uzbekistan.

The Paraguayan futsal team is in Portugal for a couple of friendly fixtures against the home team in Rio Maior. The two friendly games are part of Paraguay’s warm-up schedule ahead of the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan later this month.

The visitors held double-shift training on Sunday at the Rio Maior Complex where both the friendly matches are scheduled. The training session started with the warm-up and preventive exercises with the team’s physical trainer, Porfirio Maidana. After warm-up, the coach Carlos Chilavert supervised the tactical training and set-piece work.

The team trained again in the afternoon at the Santarem Municipal Sports Pavilion. The second mobilization started with the warm-up and preventive workouts before the players did some variations of ball work through small spaces. The session ended with a high-intensity match that ran for 30 minutes. All players look in top shape ahead of the friendly fixtures against Portugal.

The first Portugal vs Paraguay friendly match is scheduled for Monday, September 2, and will kick off at 7:00 pm local time and 2:00 pm Paraguayan time. The match will be played at the Rio Maior Complex.

Paraguay ended their home friendlies with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Panama last week. The victory would have given them some confidence ahead of the friendly fixtures against a tough opposition like Portugal.

After the friendlies in Portugal, the visitors will fly to Uzbekistan for the World Cup. They are drawn into Group A with the World Cup hosts Uzbekistan alongside Costa Rica and Netherlands. The Albirroja will kick off their World Cup campaign against Costa Rica on September 14 at the Humo Arena, Tashkent.
