Futsal Whites got a beating to remember in their first game at the Continental Futsal Championship in Thailand, losing 8-0 to the hosts.
New Zealand played their first match in the Continental Futsal Championship against Thailand and were thrashed away by the hosts. The World No.9 Thailand were dominant right throughout the game and won it 8-0 to start the tournament with a big win.
The Futsal Whites were completely outplayed by the hosts and no answer to the brisk attacking moves from Thailand. This defeat will certainly send a few shocks into their ranks and will help them regroup before the World Cup in Uzbekistan next month.

New Zealand are playing this tournament in Thailand, along with four other participating teams, to prepare for the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024, which is set to start on September 14.
Other teams in the event include Thailand, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Guatemala. Both Afghanistan and New Zealand will be making their World Cup debut at Uzbekistan 2024. Kuwait will not feature in the World Cup.
New Zealand will play their next game in the Continental Championship against Guatemala on September 4. Thailand will be up against Kuwait on September 2.
The Futsal Whites are drawn into a tricky Group at the World Cup, as they will be facing Spain, Kazakhstan, and Libya in the group stage at the mega event. Especially, Kazakhstan and Spain will be tough opponents for them and they’d want to take full advantage of their participation in the Continental Futsal Cup to prepare for those tough games.
