Futsal AFCON 2026: Angola Stun Egypt 4-2 to Top Group B
Angola produced the result of the group stage at the Futsal AFCON 2026 on Saturday night, coming from 2-1 down at half-time to beat Egypt 4-2 at the Salle Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
The win takes the Palancas Negras top of Group B with a perfect nine points from three matches, while Egypt finish second on six. It is a huge statement from the 2024 runners-up, who had to dig deep against the three-time African champions.
Egypt looked in control at the break. Sayed struck twice in the first half, in the 6th and 14th minutes, to put the Pharaohs 2-0 up before Angola pulled one back to make it 2-1 at half-time.
Angola’s second-half comeback
The second half belonged entirely to Angola. Jô Mahrez scored twice and Mano Sele was also on target as Angola netted three unanswered goals after the restart to complete a famous turnaround.
Egypt, who had not conceded a single goal in their opening two matches, simply had no answer once Angola found their rhythm. The 4-2 scoreline flattered the Pharaohs, who were chasing the game for most of the second half.
The result also settles the semi-final lineup. Angola will face Algeria, the Group A runners-up, in the first semi-final on Monday, while Egypt must now take on hosts and defending champions Morocco in the second semi-final.
What it means for the semi-finals
Angola’s reward for topping the group is a tie against first-time semi-finalists Algeria — a match the Palancas Negras will start as favourites. For Egypt, the road to a fourth continental title now goes through Morocco, the team that has dominated African futsal in recent years and is chasing a fourth straight crown on home soil.
Both of these sides sit among the continent’s elite in the FIFA futsal rankings, and Monday’s semi-finals promise two fascinating contests. Angola’s attacking firepower — João Cambangula and Hornes Santo had already starred in the group stage — makes them a genuine title threat, while Egypt’s pedigree means they can never be written off.
The final group standings read: Angola 9 points, Egypt 6, Mozambique 3, Tanzania 0.
