Futsal AFCON 2026: Egypt Thrash Tanzania 8-0 in Group B Opener
Egypt made a ruthless statement of intent at the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026, thrashing debutants Tanzania 8-0 in their Group B opener at the Salle Moulay Abdellah in Rabat on Tuesday.
The three-time champions needed just 30 seconds to break the deadlock, with Ibrahim El-Sayed scoring the fastest goal of the tournament so far. It was the start of a long evening for Tanzania, who are appearing at the Futsal AFCON for the first time.
Pharaohs run riot in Rabat
El-Sayed was at the heart of everything for Egypt. After his 30-second opener, Mohamed Talaat and Mohamed Saeed struck in quick succession to make it 3-0 inside the first six minutes, and Tanzania never recovered.
Saeed added a second in the 28th minute before Ahmed Ali took over in the closing stages, scoring twice (31′, 37′) either side of Y. El-Sayed’s strike in the 37th minute. Ibrahim El-Sayed completed the scoring ledger with his second of the night in the 25th minute, capping a performance that underlined exactly why Egypt remain one of the tournament favourites.
Egypt’s relentless rotation of their attacking unit kept Tanzania’s defence stretched across the full 40 minutes — a reminder of how unforgiving elite futsal positions and rotations can be for debutant sides at this level.
What it means for Group B
The 8-0 margin sends Egypt straight to the top of Group B with three points and a +8 goal difference, a cushion that could prove decisive in a tight group. Tanzania sit bottom on -8.
Angola and Mozambique meet in the group’s other matchday-one fixture, with the winner joining Egypt at the top. Egypt return to action on Thursday against Mozambique, while Tanzania face Angola the same day.
With the top two from each group reaching the semi-finals under the tournament’s knockout rules, Egypt have given themselves the perfect platform — but the Pharaohs will know tougher tests await than a Tanzanian side still finding its feet on the continental stage.
