The hosts lost to Guatemala 6-4 after conceding 2 goals in the last two minutes of the game in Bangkok, Thailand.
The hosts were unlucky to lose their first game at the Continental Futsal Championship, after fighting so hard right till the end. They dominated the first half of the game and managed to keep the scores level at 4-4 until the last two minutes of the second half. But then a tactical mistake gave Guatemala a chance to register their fourth consecutive win of the tournament.
Osmanmusa scored the first goal for Thailand in the third minute of the game, striking from outside the penalty area after displaying some amazing dribbling skills.
Nine minutes into the first half, Guatemala equalized courtesy of a wonderful run from Wanderley Ruiz. He ran with the ball, dribbled, and scored with a powerful strike close to the goal.
Osmanmusa struck again in the 14th minute to give Thailand the lead. He scored his third goal with 4 minutes remaining in the first half and consolidated the lead further. At half-time, Thailand were dominating the game with a 2-goal lead.
The tables started turning in the second half, as Guatemala reduced the deficit early in the second period after Sandoval Prado took a long ball and put it in the net. Three minutes later Diaz Ajchup came up with the equalizer, making it 3-3.
It didn’t take long for Thailand to get back in the lead, and it was Osmanmusa again from the left flank to score his fourth goal of the game.
With the pressure building, Guatemala found yet another equalizer and made the score 4-4. This time Ruiz sent a corner kick to Paniagua Martinez who struck from outside the penalty area to beat the goalkeeper.
After the equalizer, both teams pressed hard to score but their efforts didn’t pay off. Eventually, with only two minutes to go in the game and Thailand were on the attack employing a flying goalkeeper, Martinez sent a lofted ball into the opposition goal from long range and put Guatemala in the lead again.
Sandoval Prado scored the sixth goal for Guatemala with only 10 seconds remaining to give them their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.
Guatemala remained unbeaten in the Continental Futsal Championship in Thailand, and it was great preparation for them ahead of the World Cup. They are placed in Group F of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024 with IR Iran, Venezuela, and France and will start their campaign on September 16 against France in Bukhara.
