The Hosts Making Strides In Futsal
The Futsal World Cup Draw 2024 as well as the entire tournament will be played in Uzbekistan this year. Uzbekistan will be the fourth member association of the AFC to host the event. Previously, it was hosted by Hong Kong in 1992, Chinese Taipei in 2004, and Thailand in 20212.
During the last decade, the sport has seen immense growth in the country. Many new players with great potential were included in the national side, and they showed a lot of promise on the international stage. Uzbekistan played its first FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2016. In 2021, they managed to reach the knockout stage of the event where they were eliminated by IR Iran, handing them a 9-8 defeat in a thrilling contest.
Uzbekistan are also the 4-times runners-up of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup, and they made it to the podium in the last 5 editions of the continental tournament. The only time they didn’t reach the Final was at this year’s event where they finished third in the tournament.
