Sergio Lozano and Adolfito made headlines as Spain defeated Hungary 5-1 in a friendly warm-up game ahead of Uzbekistan 2024.
After losing to Morocco in their last friendly game, Spain have come back stronger with a dominating 5-1 victory over Hungary. The combo of Lozano and Adolfito tested the opposition with their skillful trickery. Lozano’s breathtaking assist allowed Adolfito to bag a brace which appears to be becoming a habit for the Spanish star player. Catela, Antonio Perez, and Miguel Mellado were also among the goal scorers for Spain.
The two teams were pretty much at par early in the game. Catela broke the deadlock halfway through the first period by netting the ball after Antonio rolled a free-kick into him. The smart play from the Spanish players left the Hungarian goalkeeper clueless. Soon after the first strike, it was Mellado who helped Spain strengthen their lead as a result of a mix-up from the opposition’s defense.
Adolfito further consolidated Spain’s lead by tapping the ball into an open net. It was Lozano who set this one up and allowed Adolfito to take advantage of the unguarded goalpost. It was a treat to watch Lozano as he got past the two Hungarian defenders before pushing the ball to Adolfito dodging Alasztics so he could score an easy goal.
With Hungary trailing by 3 goals, Mark Fekete managed to get one back for them after a slick move. But that only proved to be a consolation goal, and it didn’t take long for Antonio to give Spain a 3-goal cushion again. Just before the close of the game, Tomaz sneaked the ball and passed on to Adolfito, who scored his second goal of the game.
Spain were coming from a defeat against Morocco, after first ending their 50-game unbeaten run in Rabat with a 4-2 victory in the first friendly game. It was nice for them to get back on the winning ways. Spain are now set to play another friendly at home against France on Monday. Two days later, they will host Costa Rica.
Spain will be playing Kazakhstan in their first Group D game at Uzbekistan 2024. They will also face the tournament debutant New Zealand and Libya in the following games.
The Iberians have a unique record of playing five FIFA Futsal World Cup finals in a row from 1996 to 2012. They were crowned champions twice in this period. However, they’ve had less than ideal results in the last two World Cups where they were eliminated from the quarter-finals.
