Andre Coelho Masterclass Helped Portugal Thrash Cuba

Portugal handed Cuba a humiliating defeat in Viseu, as they won it 9-0 and remained unbeaten in all three of the preparation messages they have played so far ahead of the Futsal World Cup 2024.

Portugal stunned Cuba with a scintillating performance, defeating them 9-0 in a friendly fixture in Viseu. Andre Coelho starred for them with a brilliant hat-trick, and the Cubans had no answer to his snappy footwork and lightning-fast movement. His thunderous strikes were a treat to watch.

Tomas Paco struck twice while Afonso Jesus, Tiago Brito, Bruno Coelho, and Pauleta were also among the goal scorers for Portugal.

Kutchy capitalized on his electrifying form to pull off a special trick, providing a delightful assist. Zicky also made a special move to assist in the last goal for Portugal.

With this thumping win, Portugal have won all their three warm-up fixtures so far for the World Cup next month. They have scored 18 goals in three games and only conceded 2, which certainly signifies their strength and makes them one of the major contenders for the World Cup title. Portugal will play Costa Rica today and will face Ukraine after a day’s rest on Sunday.

“The most important thing is that we had another test, it was positive, and we worked on what we wanted to work on,” said Andre Coelho. “We did what we have been training for. Who scores doesn’t matter, what matters is the process.

“It was another test against opponents with different characteristics. They forced us to work on other things, we faced a different type of defense.

“It was a fantastic game. Thanks to those who came to the arena to support us. The important thing is to arrive at the World Cup at our best, both physically and mentally.”

Portugal have a remarkable resolve to win matches and this hunger for victories played a key part for them to claim the World title three years back. Their first three fixtures in the knock-out games were very close affairs, as the winner was decided in the extra time. They were two goals down against two-time world champions Spain and made a comeback to grab victory while they won on penalties against Kazakhstan. Pany Varela claimed a brace against Argentina in the final, winning it 2-1 for his team.

Portugal are drawn into Group E at this year’s Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan and will be facing Panama, Tajikistan, and Morocco.
