Futsal AFCON 2026: Angola Beat Mozambique 5-1 in Group B Opener

Angola got their Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026 campaign off to a flying start with a 5-1 victory over Mozambique in their Group B opener at the Salle Moulay Abdellah in Rabat on Tuesday night.

The 2024 runners-up were too strong for their Southern African rivals, with Santos stealing the show with a brilliant brace in a dominant all-round performance.

Santos shines as Angola cruise

Angola struck first through Santos in the 11th minute, and Fortes doubled the lead three minutes later. Santo made it 3-0 in the 16th minute before Mozambique pulled one back through Mário Jr. just before the break to give themselves a lifeline at 3-1.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished after the restart. Santos completed his brace in the 29th minute and Cambangula added a fifth seconds later to seal a comfortable win for the Palancas Negras.

Angola’s movement off the ball and sharp finishing showed exactly why they reached last year’s final — their understanding of futsal positions and attacking rotations was a level above Mozambique on the night.

What it means for Group B

The win puts Angola level on three points with Egypt at the top of Group B, behind only on goal difference (+4 to Egypt’s +8). Mozambique sit third on -4, with debutants Tanzania bottom after their 8-0 defeat to Egypt.

Angola face Tanzania on Thursday, while Mozambique take on Egypt the same day — a huge test for both sides against the group’s early pacesetters.

With the top two from each group reaching the semi-finals under the tournament’s knockout rules, Angola have put themselves in a strong position — but the group is far from decided with two matchdays still to play.
