Kuwait Beat Afghanistan to Secure First Win at the Continental Futsal Championship

Kuwait defeated Afghanistan 4-3 in their third match of the 5-nation tournament in Bangkok, Thailand.

Afghanistan were handed their first defeat of the tournament as they lost to Kuwait in their second outing. It was really a thrilling game with lots of exciting moments and the game kept tilting towards either side right till the last minute. But eventually, it was Kuwait who came out victorious.

Kuwait took an early lead in the first half of the game but it didn’t last longer after M.R. Karimi leveled the scores on a pass from Bahman Gorgej who made a brilliant interception. The scores remained level at 1-1 in the first half.

Only four minutes into the second half of the match, Kuwait stunned the opposition with two quick strikes, scoring two goals in two within minutes. Soon after Akbar Kazemi pulled one back for Afghanistan but the goal was overturned. Seven minutes later, he struck again and reduced the deficit to one goal only.

In the dying moments of the game, Abdul Latif Al-Abbasi scored his second goal of the game and gave Kuwait an unassailable lead. With only one minute to spare, Afghanistan’s flying goalkeeper pulled one back and gave hope to the Afghans. In fact, they almost leveled the game in the last minute but the ball went just wide of the goalpost.

Afghanistan will face New Zealand in their next game on Wednesday. They’ll be hoping to produce yet another winning performance.

With a little over a week remaining before the FIFA Futsal World Cup kicks off in Uzbekistan, these games will be crucial for the participating teams to get in shape and finalize their best combinations and strategies for the mega event.
