The Dutch kept pressing, and it was Jordy Cretier who gave them the lead for the first time in the game, scoring at the end of the first half.
The Netherlands were in the lead half way through the second half. However, Faizali Sardorov scored on a penalty in the 12th minute to level the scores again, after Jordany Martinus was sent out for trying to stop a shot at goal with his elbow in the penalty area.
With only three minutes of play remaining in the game, Ayoub Boukhari committed a foul and Tajikistan were awarded a free shot from the double penalty mark, which the captain Dilshod Salomov converted easily to score the match-winning goal for his team.
